How it all began...

I wish I could say my obsession for dogs began when I was a young girl. I’d like to think it must have just been a fire that sat dormant until adult hood because it feels as if it is the most natural side of me as a human being.
It was sometime around the spring/summer of 2006 I decided to walk into the Bay Path Humane Society in Hopkinton, MA. My eyes locked eyes on 2 litter mate pups sharing a kennel. The connection was instant, and they both had this incredible lovable vibe that I just could not peel myself away from. For days I went back and forth on which one I should adopt, because having 2 dogs, well, seemed outrageous. I was 24 years old with no experience of owning a dog.
When I soon discovered their paperwork had their birthday as January 6th, the same as mine, I had zero doubt in my mind they belonged to me. It was the easiest and clearest decision I ever made in my life. Fate some say.
The bond with Luke and Leia spanned for 12 & 14 incredible years. They stuck by be through broken relationships, laughs, tears, heartaches and joys. They brought smiles to everyone they met and made the strongest man I know turn to putty… my dad.
My family and friends knew me as Joanne, and more than likely knew to expect 8 fuzzy feet following me around all over the place. We were the indestructible trio.
Leia lived to be 12 and battled for over a year with advanced congestive heart failure. Her ending was tragic, and I felt so lost.
Luke survived without his sister for 2 more years before I made the decision to put his old bones to rest. I could see he was only existing for me. The hardest battle with my heart that day.
I could write an entire book alone on my 2 legends. They are remembered through every single paw print that continues through this story of mine.
Rest in puppy heaven my 2 angels!
